Obedience and the Coton de Tulear
Participating in Obedience with your CasaBlanca Coton
Obedience training begins the moment you take your puppy
home. We request that all new family owners take their
CasaBlanca coton puppy to a puppy training class so that
both the owner and the puppy can learn to learn. ALL
Cotons learn best with positive reinforcement. We prefer
clicker training.
Many new owners are amazed at the ability of their Coton to
learn, some will earnestly tell you that their Coton is smarter
than your honor student!
In obedience, the dogs are trained to "heel" (walk quietly
along side their handler) on and off lead, "sit"," stay","down"
and "come". Once your dog has mastered these basic
skills, you will compete against other dog/handler teams to
see how well you perform these exercises and are scored
accordingly.
There are several "levels' of obedience, ranging from the
basics as described above, going all the way to scent work
where the dog sniffs out an item you held and placed
among other like items to even tracking!
Whether you intend to compete or not, obedience training
just makes for a better canine companion in all situations.
Many of our Cotons are certified Canine Good Citizens,
and we will be happy to show you how you can get your
CasaBlanca Coton certified!

just how much fun he is having showing off his
new articles for obedience class.
