Coton de Tulear Training

Always eager to please his owner, the Coton is easily trained. They readily learn almost any command, provided the training is done with positive reinforcement rather than the old training methods that used force. Obedience training, teaching your Coton tricks and housetraining are easily accomplished as they are extremely intelligent.

We have found throughout the years, that while old fashion training styles incorporated with positive reinforcement, NOTHING compares to working with your Coton and doing clicker training. I have worked with 8 week old babies here at the house and have had them learn several commands such as "sit", "down", and "go get in your bed" in a matter of MINUTES using the clicker/shaping method. It teaches your Coton puppy to "think" and respond, not just respond out of fear or by thinking they will get a treat. By using a shaping method, your Coton will learn to offer behaviors to you to see if that gets you to "click/reward" him. Once the dog has started this, practically the only limitations as to what the dog can learn are your imagination and the time you spend working with this.
