Coton de Tulear as Therapy or Assistance Dogs
Canine Partners
We have several of our Cotons that are "Therapy
Dogs", and some work as medical or emotional
assistance dogs. The personality of the Coton de
Tulear, coupled with their innate empathy and
friendly characters, instantly make them a hit as
therapy dogs. Whether you are intending to visit a
children's ward at the hospital, a nursing home, or
any other facility where the patients would benefit
from unconditional acceptance and love as well as
heartwarming snuggles, a Coton is an excellent
choice.
As the breed is considered to be hypoallergenic and non shedding, they are great choices for these types of situations where you may not know all of the medical constraints of the patients. Their small size and non threatening demeanor both work well to reducing an anxiety or trepidation the patient may feel at being faced with an unknow canine.
Many therapy dogs are taught to perform tricks as well, and Cotons are expecially good at performing for small groups.
The Coton's desire to please and his focus on people make it an excellent ce for an assistance dog. They are ideally suited to become a medical alert dog, an emotional support dog or as an assistance dog to those needing help with retrieving items, turning off and on lights, etc.
